Rob Verity

It was a chance meeting with Ricky around 1998 where on hearing Ricky’s achievements to date Rob became convinced to return to the Muay Thai and continue his training. From this day forward he became a regular at the leisure centre in Ricky’s classes. Although a little ‘rusty’ it wasn’t long before Rob was back into the swing of things and the excellent ground work of techniques learnt from Ralf and Master Sken shone out above the rest of Ricky’s fledgling students. Ricky on noticing this helped Rob develop his muay thai techniques and coaching skills and it wasn’t long before he was assisting Ricky on a regular basis. When Ricky left the leisure centre to open the Calder Thai Boxing Academy both he and Rob felt it was time for Rob to take a more prominent role in teaching at the new club so with this in mind Rob now holds his own classes on a Sunday and Wednesday evening’s. Aimed at the familys this is an open age class (for adults and children) ideally suited to the beginner and intermediate student.

Sophie Bowyer

Sophie has been training in the sport of muay thai (thai boxing) for around 5 years and in this time has become one of Calder Thai Boxing Academy’s more prolific competitors taking part in competitions throughout England as well as wining high level events in Germany, America and the home of thai boxing, Thailand and is currently the I.T.B. F’s 52kg pro women's North West Area Champion. She has trained under the instruction of Ricky Richardson for the duration of her career but like Ricky also trains regularly with Master A from Manchester for that ‘extra’ dimension to her fighting style. Sophie teaches along side of Ricky many of the children’s classes as well as her own women’s only class and is very respected by both children and adults alike and therefore can be found assisting in many of the adults mixed classes as well.
